How to Interrupt Your Sitting

Sitting is so easy. Chances are, you are doing it right now. And chances are, it is having a negative impact on your health. That’s why we present this hilarious and helpful video brought to you by AsapTHOUGHT with tips about how to stand more and sit less.

They explain that people who sit for 11 hours a day are 40% more likely to die in 3 years than those who sit for 4 hours a day or less. By just breaking up your sitting times -a 5 minute break every hour- can remove some of the negative effects of sitting disease. In their video, “9 Tips To Save Your Life” the second tip they give to combat sitting disease is to get a standing desk. Thank you for spreading the word!

Here are a few of our own tips about how to break up your sitting time:

  1. Dance Breaks- Everyone loves to dance and besides the health benefits, it’ll give you a happy boost. Check out our post about it here.
  2. Puppy Play Time- If you have a dog-friendly office, or you work from home. Every hour take a quick break to get up and play with your best bud. A quick game of fetch outside, tug of war, or a good roll around are just some of the fun ways to get that tail wagging.
  3. Walking Meeting- Schedule a time to take a lap around the building and invite others along. You can talk work on talk business. One TED talk by Nilofer Merchant titled, “Got a Meeting? Take a Walk” explains that she set up all of her meetings to be walking meetings and she has never looked back.
